One of the most challenging parts of new parenthood is how much STUFF you suddenly have to acquire. Sometimes it just feels like all you do is spend money… This Mom DIY Roundup will help you reduce, reuse, and recycle or save you some $$$!
Make your own cloth diapers:

Lots of great resources out there for those who are thinking of cloth diapering and want to make their own, or who want to start a cottage industry. I’ve heard that there are some moms who make and sell the cloth diapers and do quite well for themselves.
There are some free patterns, too. Just be sure to check the copyright before you produce any pattern for sale.
Make your own baby products:
There is a list of easy to make baby products, here: http://www.healthychild.org/easy-steps/make-your-own-baby-lotions-and-potions/
The commonly offered advice on cradle cap is included… just use olive oil. My personal experience was that vegetable glycerine was more effective and didn’t make the baby’s head as greasy. You can also dilute it 2:1 with distilled water and put it in a small cosmetic pump bottle to make a detangling spray perfect for baby fine hair.
I would also add to use extreme caution with essential oils and baby products. They may smell nice, but not all of them are safe for baby, and just because they are in a recipe on the internet doesn’t mean they’re ok… check with a reputable source before using an essential oil in anything for your baby.
Make your own reusable bags:
As more and more stores move toward giving a credit for reusable bags or straight up charging you per bag, it’s getting more and more sensible to have a collection of sturdy, easy to carry, washable grocery bags on hand.

This is another one that could be an awesome cottage industry, especially if you are using vintage fabrics from thrift stores and freecycle. It’s easier than you think to find vintage fabrics- just check the section where they sell sheets and drapes. That set of… unfortunate… drapes could make AWESOME shopping bags!
Make your own children’s percussion toys
This one also makes a great playdate activity! You’ll find it here.
