Project Stronger

Today on World Health Day the time has come to talk about getting STRONGER. I’m talking about building a strong, fit body and mind that work for your life. I’m talking about putting on your own oxygen mask first. I’m talking about you taking care of YOU, because you take care of everyone else already.

Why am I saying Stronger? Because we seem to have developed a dialog where people think you can just say “lose weight” and have that be meaningful. First of all, let’s set aside how offensive that is, and let’s look at the fact that what you weigh is just one tiny, tiny part of a much bigger picture. A “healthful” weight for one person may not be healthful for another. So I refuse to talk about “losing weight” when I’m talking about health, although for some people a well managed weight loss may be part of that picture. I am also not talking about trying to live up to some photo in a magazine. (WE ARE ON TO THAT SCAM. They are all photo shopped!)

What does Stronger look like for you? What will make you FEEL like you are the kind of person you want your children to emulate? Because our kids are going to grow up to be like us, whether we are the people we would like to be or not. Let’s pick a goal that will make us STRONG. Let’s start somewhere and work toward being the best version of US we can be.

Dare to dream. Ask yourself what would make YOU feel strong. Taking a walk every day? Lifting weights three times a week? Becoming the household arm wrestling champion? Rock climbing with your kids?  Do you need to work on healthy eating and physical fitness? Should you be setting aside time for some hobby twice a month or once a week? Have you stopped listening to music even though it used to move you 24 hours a day? Do you really just need to get more sleep? (For some of us this is a real, real goal. I’m not belittling it at all.) Figure out what it is. And then let’s talk, ok?

  1. I have always thought that my kids came first however I’ve come to realize that if I do not take care of myself I will not be here to take care of them therefore I have started a new healthy lifestyle and I hope to influence them to follow in my footsteps.
