Uncorked Ventures Wine Club: Adventure in a box. Yellowjackets not provided.

uncorked ventures wine club reviewOk, so listen. I’m not a wine connoisseur. In fact, I had to look up how to spell connoisseur. When asked what I like, I can’t even give a cogent answer, because all I know is that I like what I like. I’ve done broad based wine tastings and liked things from all over the list. I could do a blind taste and have no idea which wines were “good.” I could only tell you whether I enjoyed it. This means that I have endless adventures ahead of me when it comes to trying new wines, because I don’t know what to expect. And then I get to pair it with food and find out that it blows me away all over again. (For instance- I would never have thought to pair a wine with mushrooms, but after I read the tasting notes for Brouhaha, I experienced mushrooms in a whole new way. AMAZING.)

That’s why, when Uncorked Ventures wrote to ask if I would provide my honest and possibly totally incorrect opinion (okay, I added that second part) if they sent me an example of their Explorations Wine Club shipments for my evaluation, I was all in. Because who doesn’t love adventure? Well, I admit there are some adventures that are not lovable. Like that one time a yellowjacket wasp fell down into my bra at church and started stinging me frantically because it rightly believed it was trapped and about to die. Of course, half the church congregation was about to see me jump up screaming and rip my shirt off, but nobody saw that plot twist coming, least of all the yellowjacket in question. This particular experience was not only yellowjacket free, but involved no wasps of any kind. So, in this case, Yay Adventure.

My shipment contained a bottle of Brouhaha and a bottle of Decalier De La Terre. Never one to keep an adventure to myself (after all, once you’ve lived down screaming your head off and flashing half the congregation of your church, you might as well carry on sharing things in a spirit of friendship wherever you go), I shared these wines with some of my favorite wine enthusiasts, and the unanimous consensus was that they are Good Wine. A little time spent with Professor Google reveals that $40 shipped for the two bottles is a perfectly reasonable price for these labels. You don’t have to get monthly shipments, you can choose the frequency that works for you and enjoy a sting-free adventure every month, four, two, or six as you please.

If these two wines are an indicator of their track record, I would say you’ll be paying a reasonable price to have someone who knows how to pick wine make a selection for you to try. Which is great because then you can just try the wine and not have to spend time making decisions first. Not that there’s anything wrong with making decisions, it’s just sometimes hard to make good ones when you have a toddler trying to climb your leg. I also think this would make a great gift if you happen to know someone who likes wine, enjoys trying new wines, and can’t give you an articulate answer to what kind of wine they prefer. JUST SAYING.

Oh, and you need some of these, to keep from spilling your wine all over yourself when that toddler starts his way up:

    1. It was shockingly good. I mean, I like mushrooms ok… the ones we used for the tasting were good when I had them alone. But with the wine, they were unbelievable! I am definitely going to have to bone up on food pairing, because i had no idea it could be that good.
